It's not a problem with the MBP, but with all trade-in programs lowballing the offers. You can always get 1.5-2x more if you sell it yourself, if it's a computer, video games, used car, or anything else.If you have a box of old console games, it might make sense to take the trade-in because it's not worth your time to negotiate with people on craigslist. But for expensive items like a recent MBP or cars it's always worthwhile to sell it yourself. Or gift it to a family member who needs one, instead of gifting it to the trade-in company.
